Boston Terriers & French Bulldogs
~ About Us ~
Welcome to Justamere Boston Terriers.  My husband, Jim, and I are based in the southwestern corner of Indiana, and began our great journey of love and infatuation with all things Boston, over 30 years ago.  Unfortunately, we did it all wrong, and for the wrong reasons, even though it turned out extremely well, and I'll share a bit of that with you as background.

What you're about to read, might be more accurately depicted as a "computer-generated Coffee Table Book" of photos of some of our outstanding Bostons I had the privilege to breed and show, since I'm no longer doing much breeding, and don't usually have puppies to sell.

For years, we'd bred, trained, and shown German Shepherd Dogs, a breed we thought was our great love; one day,  a couple came to breed to our GSD male.  They were carrying in their arms, the cutest, tiny Boston I'd ever seen.  I asked if they'd ever considered breeding her and they shared that they were on their way to get her bred, as well as the Shepherd girl.  Long story short, we struck a deal where we'd trade them a stud service from our male, for a pick Boston female puppy from that litter.  Today, I would NEVER enter into such an unplanned and not thought-out arrangement, but it turned out to be a stroke of pure luck for us, and we selected our future Anjimac's Justamere's Mandolyn, (Mandy).

Again, having no knowledge or experience in the Boston breed at all, I decided two years later we should breed her (for all the wrong reasons, of course), but, utilizing my limited breeding knowledge in other breeds, and with her skimpy pedigree, I studied the Breed Standard backward and forward,  in a search for the  finest stud dog possible.  Our deepest gratitude goes to the owner of that top Boston male for agreeing to my request.

That decision gave us our first litter of Boston Terriers, from which I selected to keep one I named Justamere's Showman Deja Vu, aka "Simon".  Having been bitten (and thoroughly infected) by the 'show bug', off we went, with Simon, attaining his championship easily,  ultimately becoming the #1 Boston Terrier in 1990, and one of the top producing stud dogs of all time, surpassed by his sire and grand-sire.  He sired 43 champions, and I had the luxury of showing him his entire lifetime, with him garnering multiple Group 1s;  he also won many Breed Specialty shows after he attained the age of 9, which was a remarkable feat for an "old guy".   Always the ultimate show man, he wowed the crowds, as did his fantastic daughter, Ch. OJ First Class Fortune Cooky, the first Boston Terrier bitch to win an all-breed Best In Show in over a decade.

The background music on this website, "You Are So Beautiful To Me", sung by Joe Cocker, is what I used to sing to her at ringside, to keep her settled and quiet, and she'd just snuggle in and listen to me, cocking her head in the way only a Boston can do.

Sadly, these wonderful dogs are now gone to the Rainbow Bridge, but they're still with us every day in our hearts.  Our memories of them are rich with their undying love.

We had many opportunities to sell these dogs, but I could never have parted with them, until one fortunate day, Mrs. Joanne Hearst approached me, offering to be a backer for my dogs.  Later, we acquired many 'leased' Bostons for me to finish and special for her, and they were all "special" each, in his/her own way.  Mrs. Hearst and I have maintained a tremendous respect for one another, and I owe much of my success to her love for the breed, and the Boston Terrier world owes her a huge thanks for the support she extended to the Boston Terrier Club of America.

All the important things you should look for in a good, well-bred Boston Terrier, are covered in so many different venues, so I will stress that you deal only with a conscientious, reputable breeder when you're searching for your first (or ANY) Boston.  Many tell me, "Oh, we're just looking for a pet/companion- not a show dog", but you need to know that each of us has pets in every litter.

The main thing to realize  is that each of ours are handled as if they were show dogs and precious commodities;  well-socialized as part of our household, not raised in a kennel setting, health-tested thoroughly, and run to the veterinarian for any little discomfort.

Most important, when you begin your search, is that you get a copy of the Boston Terrier Standard and read and re-read it until you have it memorized.  What you look for in a Boston is "type and style".  This breed should carry itself proudly and regally.  You may have heard some say they prefer the "terrier type" or the "bully type".  This is wrong;  there is only ONE type - the correct, to the Standard type, but if you don't know how to interpret what you're seeing, you're lost, probably at the outset.  Please rely on your breeder to help you search through the information correctly.  They should be willing and able to do that, and are glad to assist.

Also, please don't be taken by the "rare colors" propaganda.  There are NO rare colors.  RARE IS WRONG !!  No blues, reds, fawns, liver or brown, or other "off" colors  are allowed in our Standard.

I breed very little today, but as in the past, every breeding will be planned and pedigrees studied, before a choice in parentage is decided.  All health testing will be demanded on both the sire and the dam (CERF, BAER, hips & patellas, cardiac, etc.) and puppies are health-tested as well, before going to their new homes.

And now, if you would, please take a brief walk with me down "memory lane" and look at some of our wonderful old Bostons.

Thanks for visiting!
